The third XP Day North America took place in Montreal, Quebec at le CRIM, an IT research center, on September 23, 2006. Our first bilingual event demanded a bilingual cast, which included special invited guest Laurent Bossavit, tutorial presenter J. B. Rainsberger and Open Space facilitator Deb Hartmann. We also invited Michael Feathers, Dave Rooney and Pyxis Technologies to join us. This event uncovered a thriving, but relatively unknown XP community.
Laurent greeted us with a discourse about cultural divisions and how to narrow them, appropriately delivered partly in French and partly in English. He reminded us that we are more similar than we are different, and to use that as the basis for working together, rather than using it as an excuse to remain divided.
Tutorials included my introduction to XP based on the Theory of Constraints and Michael Feathers’ suggestions on how to design APIs to be testable. Our special event was a panel discussion about the importance of the customer role in XP, in which I was joined by Michael, Laurent, Dave Rooney and François Beauregard.
Deb Hartmann facilitated our first bilingual Open Space and Pyxis Technologies shared their Green Pepper customer testing system in the Project Room.
